Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Why Visibility Matters for Your Small Business

The difference between a small business that gets found and one that doesn’t?

It’s not talent… it’s visibility.

“Out of sight, out of mind” applies to your business too.

If you want to reach future customers sustainably, you’ve got to showcase your business so they see you and remember you later on when they have a need your business fulfills.

IMAGINE WITH ME FOR A MOMENT:

Think about the last thing you purchased based on a sponsored result that popped up on Google Search, or a brand that was recommended by an influencer you follow—clothes, vitamins, clean beauty, a local photographer, you name it.

Chances are, you saw the company a few times before actually giving them your money. You saw content about or from the brand, built trust (even subconsciously) by observation and testimonials, and when you were ready to purchase whatever you needed/wanted...you REMEMBERED their company existed and took the leap with them over other competitors.

THAT’S THE POWER OF VISIBILITY! It’s getting your brand out in front of your ideal clients or customers so when they need a certain product or service, YOU come to mind.

But here’s the catch: it’s not as simple as having ONE mode of visibility. In this digital age, there are so many competitors vying for consumers’ attention.

Don’t only rely on social media.
Don’t only rely on a website.
Seek multiple (but manageable) ways to increase your visibility in the spaces your ideal clients exist—both in person and online!

(Think website + socials + posters + networking, for example!)

Because you may have raw talent... but do enough people know your business exists?

A. Lee Judge from
The Context Remix on LinkedIn put it so well:

“Today, visibility is the total footprint your brand creates across search, social, video, podcasts, earned media, and AI answers. It is whether your company shows up often enough, in enough places, with enough credibility to educate buyers while they are deciding.”
